After the overturning of Roe v. Wade 1 year ago, women living in states with restrictive abortion laws have struggled to access medication for conditions like Crohns, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis. Girls and women of childbearing age who are taking methotrexate for conditions such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis cannot continue treatment, even if they are not pregnant. This problem is real, and patients are already being denied critical medication.
“I’m still in a flare-up from losing access to methotrexate,” says Myisha Malone-King, inflammatory bowel disease and chronic illness patient advocate.
