My Gene Counsel CEO selected as a Connecticut “Women of Innovation®” finalist.

BRANFORD, CT (PRWEB) MARCH 23, 2017

Ellen Matloff, president and CEO of My Gene Counsel, LLC, was recently selected by the Connecticut Technology Council (CTC) as a 2017 Women of Innovation® finalist. Matloff will be among several women to be honored at CTC’s 13th annual Women of Innovation Awards Dinner.

The dinner recognizes women accomplished in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), along with those involved in volunteer activities in their communities. Matloff is the founder and former director of the Cancer Genetic Counseling Program at Yale School of Medicine and has authored more than 50 scientific publications in the field.

She is also an established educator, lecturer, and media spokesperson and has received national awards for her ongoing patient advocacy efforts. An outspoken patient advocate in many areas, Matloff was a plaintiff in the 2013 Supreme Court case, Association for Molecular Pathology v. Myriad Genetics, (frequently referred to as the “BRCA case”). This court’s decision has led to drastically lower prices of genetic testing, making it possible for more patients to afford this technology.

The Women of Innovation finalists were selected by a panel of judges from more than 200 leading Connecticut women, all nominated by peers, colleagues, guidance counselors, or teachers. Matloff was chosen in the Entrepreneurial Innovation and Leadership category, in recognition of her success in transferring her passion for patient-friendly and affordable genetic counseling from the halls of academia to the world of commerce by founding the technology startup known as My Gene Counsel. Matloff created the company, My Gene Counsel, and its associated digital tools for use in parallel with genetic testing to help ensure that results are used accurately and effectively.

“I am honored to be chosen as a Connecticut Technology Council Women of Innovation finalist,” said Matloff. “The work that the CTC does in raising the awareness and profile of Connecticut-based technology, innovation, and commerce is vital to Connecticut and has been indispensable in helping to propel our company forward. Our team at My Gene Counsel remains committed to bringing the value of genetic counseling to doctors and patients around the world, and we are on the verge of exciting breakthroughs in genomic science.”

The 2017 Women of Innovation Awards dinner will be held at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington, Conn., on March 29, 2017.
