Genetic counselors are required to recertify every 5 years, in order to maintain CGC credentials from the American Board of Genetic Counselors. Recertification can be completed through continuing education or by retaking the exam (ABGC). If pursuing continuing education, genetic counselors must earn 12.5 CEU credits over the certification period.
