Nature: Gene Counsellors Expect Resurgence of 'Jolie Effect'

This story follow's Angelina Jolie Pitt's disclosure that she recently underwent a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, her second prophylactic surgery since testing positive for a BRCA1 mutation. Her public comments have sparked a wider discussion on hereditary cancer, and treatment and prevention courses, and may also contribute to a surge in demand for genetic testing.

Matloff warned that as genetic testing and counseling becomes more prolific, it's important that patients seek out well-qualified practitioners. “This is the time to invest in someone who is really certified in this area,” she says.
